Dr Lauren Cook
I’m Lauren and I graduated from RMIT with a Bachelor of Health Science and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Osteopathy.
I’m so excited to be in a profession that allows me to continue to explore the workings of the human body and allows me to pass on my knowledge to help others
learn and heal. I’ve always been involved in sports and with that, my own injuries. I was, and still am, so fascinated with all the different components of movement, injury, pain, healing and adaptation.
The most important thing I’ve learnt is that the body doesn’t need to be fixed. But what it does need is a supportive environment and guidance in order to heal itself. As an osteo, that’s what I aim to do; figure out what your body needs in order to heal.
I enjoy treating patients who are open minded and want to play an active role in their healing. I enjoy talking to patients about the importance of strength and how the body was created for movement. I also have a soft spot for knee injuries as I have had a number of my own.
Outside osteo I’m a dedicated gym goer, a casual bartender and barister and mama to a 6 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Rachimah completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Complimentary Medicine (Osteopathy) and a Masters in Osteopathy at RMIT University. She also has over 8 years’ experience working as a masseuse prior to becoming an Osteopath.
She provides a holistic approach, playing an active role in patient education to assist with managing pain and injuries. Rachimah has experience treating a wide variety of complaints using a combination of cranial and structural techniques, as well as looking into postural, emotional and ergonomic factors. She strives to find the source of problem so that a course of treatment can be devised to prevent reoccurrence as well as relieving presenting symptoms. Her gentle approach is suitable for all ages and injuries with a focus on restoring optimal health and well-being.
Rachimah aims to work with her patients’ consultants, obstetricians and GPs to enable patients to have the best all round care. She believes that the human body has a huge natural potential for healing, which can be stimulated by implementing osteopathic treatment.
Dr Alana Smarrelli
I am a registered Osteopath and member of Osteopathy Australia. I graduated from 5 years of osteopathic study from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Complementary Medicine) and a Masters in Osteopathy.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my work in the Osteopathic field. Every year my knowledge, skills and passion grow. I chose to participate in post graduate courses including Osteopathy in the Cranial Field, Dr Still’s original technique, Rule of the Artery and Balancing Ligamentous Tension. Each course fascinating, challenging and essential for expanding my tool set and refining my palpation and diagnostic skills.
I treat the whole body from head to toe, and all ages from babies to the elderly and everyone in-between. I have a particular interest in posture; ligamentous/connective tissue injuries; and thoracic and rib cage pain. During the consultation, I take the time to explain the working diagnosis; the associated anatomy; and techniques used.
Every patient is unique. Each with their own history, experiences and pain patterns. My intention is always to listen; listen not only to my patient but also to what their tissues have to tell me. Then we can find the cause of the problem.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, yoga and catching up for coffee with friends and family
Introduction to Atrium Osteopathy, Balwyn
Welcome to Atrium Osteopathy Balwyn, conveniently located close to Melbourne where an understanding of your body and the achievement of your goals for your health is our top priority.
The information on this page is designed to help you get the most from your experience of our manual therapy techniques.
One of our strongest beliefs is that the body has its own ability to heal. It is important you remember that the manual therapy techniques we use can only facilitate your healing process. We will gently remind you of this during the treatment.
Our choice of manual therapy technique relates to our individual diagnosis of each person. The techniques we use include soft tissue technique, stretching, muscle energy technique, myofascial release, cranio-sacral osteopathy / cranial osteopath techniques and high velocity manipulation.
Please discuss any concerns you may have about any of these techniques at any time throughout the treatment process.
Some people will experience temporary pain after a treatment. This is generally a positive sign that your body has made postural changes and normally remains for up to three days after a treatment.
Please feel that you can call and discuss any concerns you have with either your individual practitioner or any of the other practitioners in the osteopathic clinic
An Osteopathic Treatment ends when significant tissue change has occurred. This may take a shorter or longer period of time for different people. We always try to give each patient the amount of treatment they need on any given day.
This means that sometimes we may run a little late because a patient in need has required more time. If you are one who is held up, we will offer you the courtesy of allowing more time for your treatment if it is needed.
Generally we treat a new patient for 45 minutes and a returning patient for 30 minutes.
You will be charged a fee if you do not give us at least 24 hours to change or cancel an appointment. We do this because we value our time and because we often have a waiting list of patients who can fill a vacancy if given enough notice.
We expect payment on the day of treatment and you have a choice of paying by cash, cheque, credit card or eftpos.
Please feel free to ask us any questions before your treatment begins or at any stage in the treatment process. We value your feedback.
